Associate Professor Patrick Weinrauch is an Orthopaedic Surgeon who exclusively manages hip joint disorders in adults. His practice offers a comprehensive spectrum of alternatives for the management of people suffering from hip joint conditions, including hip joint arthroscopy, hip joint preservation surgery, hip resurfacing and hip replacement procedures (both primary and revision). A/Prof Weinrauch obtained his medical degree from the University of Queensland in 1997. He completed specialist training in Orthopaedic Surgery in Queensland and obtained his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2006. He then undertook advanced post-graduate Fellowship training in the surgical management of hip disorders. In 2007 Dr Weinrauch was appointed as Clinical Fellow Hip Surgery at the University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire (England) specialising in hip arthroscopy, hip resurfacing, hip replacement and revision hip arthroplasty. During this time he also trained at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital (Birmingham, England) specialising in hip resurfacing and open joint preservation surgery, including pelvic and femoral osteotomy. In 2008, A/Prof Weinrauch established the Brisbane Hip Clinic at St Andrew's War Memorial Hospital, Brisbane Australia.
A/Prof Weinrauch is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and a Fellow of the Australian Orthopaedic Association. He is a member of the Australian Medical Association, Australian Society of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a foundation member of the Australian Hip Arthroscopy Society.
A/Prof Weinrauch currently serves as the Director of Orthopaedic Surgery at St Andrew's War Memorial Hospital and orthopaedic representative to the Medical Advisory Committee. He has previously served appointments as Deputy Editor to the International Journal of Advanced Joint Reconstruction, Scientific Secretary to the Queensland Branch of the Australian Orthopaedic Association and President of the Queensland Orthopaedic Registrar's Association. In 2010, A/Prof Weinrauch was selected as the Australian Orthopaedic Association's representative for the ABC Traveling Fellowship (Unites States of America).
A/Prof Weinrauch is actively involved in medical education, conducting regular demonstrations and lectures for local and international surgical colleagues in advanced techniques relating to the surgical management of hip joint disorders. As an industry reference centre surgeon, A/Prof Weinrauch develops and delivers education programs to demonstrate anterior approach total hip replacement, hip resurfacing, revision hip replacement and hip arthroscopy procedures. A/Prof Weinrauch also regularly participates in teaching activities for physiotherapists, nursing staff and allied health practitioners.
A/Prof Weinrauch maintains interest in clinical research and orthopaedic engineering, with multiple publications and a Master of Engineering thesis relating to revision of hip joint replacements. He is currently appointed as an Associate Professor at the Griffith University School of Medicine has been awarded a Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) for his research relating to the surgical management of adult hip joint disorders. A/Prof Weinrauch is a consultancy advisor to the medical device industry, assisting in the design and development of innovative surgical techniques, surgical instrumentation platforms and prosthetic implants used for hip joint replacement and arthroscopy procedures.
A/Prof Weinrauch consults from the Brisbane Hip Clinic and performs all operative procedures at St Andrew's War Memorial Hospital, Brisbane. Telemedicine consultation services are available for regional, interstate and international patients.
