About Jay Cunningham

Jay tailors holistic assessment and treatment to empower patients of all ages, skill and fitness levels to achieve their goals for function and physical performance.

Jay obtained her physiotherapy degree from the University of Sydney in 1994, having initially been drawn to the profession through her personal experience recovering from hip injuries sustained in dance and sport. She certified as a Clinical Pilates Practitioner in 2003, completing the Australian Pilates Method Association’s two year course, and subsequently her international certification in pre and post natal Pilates.

During her 25-plus years of clinical practice in both Sydney and London, Jay has worked alongside industry leaders in the fields of physiotherapy and medicine as a musculoskeletal physiotherapy consultant, founded her own physiotherapy private practice in Sydney, and consulted for professional sporting teams and dance companies in Australia. She has also taught on postgraduate courses for physiotherapists.

Jay has attended Dr Alison Grimaldi’s series of post graduate professional development courses in person and is a Hip Academy member. She previously worked alongside Dr Barbara Hungerford, Australian physiotherapist specialising in the field of pelvic and hip pain, and has completed the Integrated Systems Model series with Canadian physiotherapist Diane Lee. Jay combines her knowledge and experience to determine the underlying cause of each individual patient’s concerns, and supports her patients in their recovery with specialised treatment and rehabilitation plans for long lasting recovery.

ABOUT EVOLVE PHYSIO

My practice centres on long lasting recovery, prevention, and optimisation of performance, through a patient-centred, collaborative approach, integrating the entire body from a whole person perspective.

I am a consultant musculoskeletal, dance, sports and pre and post natal physiotherapist with specialised skills and experience in hip, pelvic and back pain.

Through EVOLVE PHYSIO, my mission is to empower patients and professionals through experienced, integrative, personalised, collaborative care and education, to reduce and prevent pain and injury, and optimise function and performance.

Using a strong clinical reasoning framework based on contemporary research evidence and clinical expertise, I go beyond diagnosis to identify and target underlying root causes for each individual.

I have witnessed great success in empowering individuals to be confident, active participants in their recovery and prevention programs, and I am passionate about instilling patients' self-efficacy by taking time to share clinical knowledge, reliable information sources, and expertise.

I can provide you with:

  • Assessment as a first contact practitioner to accurately diagnose and devise a treatment plan for your pain/problem
  • Integrated, entire body assessment to determine underlying root causes, targeting these for long lasting recovery
  • A specialised second opinion as a one-off or ongoing, when recovery is not going as expected, and collaboration with other health professionals in your care
  • Recommendations and referrals to other health and medical professionals who may benefit your recovery as needed
  • Advice and education to empower you with the knowledge and skills to drive your recovery and prevent future problems
